If you’re facing an emergency with your pet, you can depend on our dedicated team who are ready to provide the highest level of care, compassion, and support. Signs of an Emergency
At times, it can be difficult to know what’s an emergency. In general, emergencies include but are not limited to:
- Ingestion of a toxic or poisonous substance, from human foods such as xylitol, chocolate, or garlic to household/automotive fluids like antifreeze
- Fainting, collapse, or seizures
- Fractures, lameness, severe lacerations, and other signs of serious trauma
- Bleeding from the orifices
- Choking, gagging, and other respiratory crises
- Eye injury
- Inability or refusal to drink water or eat food
- Rapid swelling of the face or abdomen
- Lengthy periods between delivery of puppies or kittens in a litter (difficult labor)
- Unexplained disorientation, dizziness, or loss of consciousness
- Inability to urinate or defecate

Primary Care vs. Delta Vet; Where should I go?
Primary Care vet
sneezing, runny nose
coughing without respiratory distress
itchy ears or skin
scooting
hot spots
broken nails
vomiting/diarrhea 1-2x within 24 hours, but normal behavior
Urgent Care
vomiting/diarrhea with behavior change
eyes: redness, discharge, squinting
porcupine quills
blood in urine or stool
wounds & injuries
lameness, difficulty walking
allergic reactions
limping
tick-borne disease
Emergency
foreign body or toxin ingestion
serious trauma (i.e. hit by a car)
cannot breathe, choking
unconsciousness/collapse
broken bone
bloating, retching, or unproductive vomiting
straining or unable to defecate/urinate
snake bite
